What is Vaginal Atrophy?

With age and declining estrogen levels the wall of the vagina loses collagen, becomes thing and the natural elasticity and blood supply is reduced. The protective lining of the vagina loses hydration and thickness causing a loss of lubrication and changes in the natural internal environment. This can result in symptoms such as:

  • Loss of Lubrication and Dryness

  • Vaginal Loosening

  • Vaginal Itch / Burning

  • Urinary Urgency and Incontinence

  • Painful Sexual Intercourse

In addition to age, breast feeding mothers, mothers who experienced a traumatic delivery, younger women who have used the pill for longer periods of times and patients with breast cancer may also suffer from these symptoms.

How Does Femitone Work?

A CO2 Fractional Laser is inserted into the vagina and causes a controlled and highly precise photo-thermal effect into the Vaginal Mucosa, promoting tissue contraction and tightening and returning its natural elasticity to the vaginal canal. The laser energy delivered along the vaginal wall heats the tissue without damaging it and stimulates the production of new collagen in the Endopelvic Fascia.

What happens during Femitone Treatment?

The treatment takes around ten minutes. A swab is inserted into the vagina to dry the inside. After it is removed the laser probe is then inserted and you will feel a low grade vibration and warmth inside the vaginal canal which is virtually painless for most women. This process lasts around 5 minutes. The probe is then removed and the treatment is complete. In as little as 30 days after treatment, the regeneration of new tissue in the vaginal wall starts to build a naturally stronger, tighter structure and the protective mucosa recovers volume, hydration and elasticity. There is no downtime for Femitone, you can return to you day to day activities immediately. We recommend refraining from strenuous exercise for 24 hours and from vaginal intercourse for 7 days.

When Will You See Result and How Long Do They Last?

Most patients feel an improvement after the first treatment however the full benefits of Femitone are usually achieved after 3 treatments, spaced one month apart.

All changes achieved by Femitone are long lasting however as the natural ageing process continues, top up treatments may be required every 6-18 months depending on hormones and other factors.

How to Prepare for Treatment.

The only preparation we require is evidence that your last PAP Smear showed no changes and is classed as 'normal'.

Femitone can not be performed if a client is menstruating, please book accordingly.

We also ask that you kindly shave or trim the pubic hair around the labia and vaginal entrance - if you would like the external appearance to the vagina lasered then it would be essential to be smooth shaven, or waxed prior to your appointment.
